Executive Coaching – Communication and Self-Reflection
The Challenge
A senior manager in the finance and controlling department of a large multinational company faced complex professional and interpersonal challenges in his daily work. Highly committed to his role, he recognized that consciously developing his communication skills would play a key role in enabling him to support his team more effectively, leading change with confidence, and laying a strong foundation for his long‑term leadership growth and success.
On his own initiative, he chose to engage in executive coaching as a way of exploring his strengths, identifying and and acting on opportunities for growth, and uncovering both internal and external challenges that could impact his leadership. Given that English served as the medium of communication – a native language for the coach and a learnt language for the executive – both worked consciously to navigate subtleties of expression and cultural nuance so that the developmental work remained fully accessible and effective.
The Solution
During the spring and summer of 2025, the coaching process began with an informal ‘chemistry’ conversation, followed by eight coaching sessions in which insights, direction and outcomes were shaped dynamically through the guided reflective work undertaken together.
The coaching focused on the following areas:
- developing self-reflection and emotional self-awareness,
- recognising communication barriers and enhancing adaptive strategies,
- identifying leadership challenges and obstacles,
- strengthening his strategic mindset,
- intentionally building a broad network of relationships across teams, peer groups, and senior leadership within the corporation.
During the process, the open and trusting atmosphere enabled meaningful self-examination and thorough analysis of previous and current leadership communication experiences, The strategies developed during the sessions were put into practice, and their joint review ensured ongoing improvement.
The Result
The coaching process clearly reinforced the participant’s commitment to his leadership role and helped him communicate more consciously, confidently, and effectively at multiple levels of the organization. This development had a positive impact on his leadership presence, decision-making, and cooperation with his team and peers. Since all personal development is an organic process, after six months two additional coaching sessions were held to support the internalization of new behaviours and normalize the changes that had been implemented, thereby enabling the further consolidation and maximisation of his leadership potential.
